SPRING day was no cause for celebration for 41-year-old Siyolo Ntlabezo when he was sentenced to life imprisonment and 15 years for murder and rape respectively, by the Lady Frere High Court.
Police spokesman captain Namhla Mdleleni said Ntlabezo was sentenced on September 1 following the rape and murder of Nolwandle Mabona, 62, in St Marks village, Cofimvaba in May last year.
“The deceased was sleeping alone in her house when the suspect entered and raped her, after which he brutally killed her. A case of murder was opened and the suspect was found within a few days of the incident. The docket was assigned to Detective Bongani Sogiba who successfully opposed bail for the suspect.”
Bridge Camp station commander Captain Bongani Ngxatu commended Sogiba’s good work.
