Jacob VALGAS Football Club thumped Seven Stars 4-2 at the Dumpy Adams field in an SAB league clash on Saturday.
Stars’ blunders at the back cost them dearly when Valgas took the lead after two minutes when Siyabulela Ntoni’s shot went into the net.
A minute later, Valgas put pressure on the Aloevale side, but Stars were saved by the ref who ruled Siyabonga Landelo offside. Va l g a s ’ defence kept a close watch on Stars striker Megan Hector, not allowing him any chance to score.
The visitors nearly doubled their tally when Siyabonga Landelo beat two Stars defenders, only to have his shot hit the crossbar.
Stars showed more hunger with striker Sean Tromp having only himself to blame after he missed a chance with only the keeper to beat. Va l g a s ’ counter attacks could have won them the game in the first half, but Stars captain Aldrin Webster kept his defence solid.
Valgas should have stretched their lead when Nthetha’s low cross found an unmarked Ndimphiwe Haki whose finish slipped past. It was a long range free kick that had Landelo dribbling past the Stars’ defence with the score 2-0. Stars’ coach Rino Mattys made his first change and a penalty converted by Hector gave Stars hope 2-1. Stars introduced Fareed Peacock to their striking force and he scored after a few seconds. In the second half Stars had a chance to equalise but failed when Isaacs Maureez’ shot sailed past.
The last quarter produced thrilling goals and Valgas took three points.
Valgas assistant coach Unathi Phungulu said a victory was non-negotiable after their 2-0 defeat to Amathole FC. “We came prepared for Stars.”
